Delighted and still slightly overwhelmed to share that Outside, Inside the Forest has won an award at Materia Bosque VIII, as one of only two awarded video works selected from almost 800 applications across 84 countries.

I made this video performance in 2019 from a ‘soapbox’ rock in The Valley, Riba-roja d’Ebre in response to the political and social changes brought about by the Brexit referendum: changes in status, new border controls, the loss of freedom of movement, barriers, questions of identity, physical isolation, a lack of human connection, and an echoed, breaking voice declaring my ‘status’.

Part of the forest, like a tree – steadfast, with no live audience to witness the happening, the work continues to take on new meanings in changing contexts. It has been shown during pandemic lockdowns, for International Women’s Day celebrations, and now as part of Materia Bosque (Forest Matter).
Outside, Inside the Forest remains a declaration, a proclamation, a rant for, against, and as a human being in a forest.

Materia Bosque is a project by LABEA – Laboratory of Art, Science and Nature – developed in collaboration with the Bunka Foundation and RCR Arquitectes.
