We, the Tree. 2026. Recorded performance (edited), site specific spoken word performance and installation.
We, the Tree is a site-specific spoken word performance and installation exploring our relationship with olive trees as witnesses, companions and living archives. Performed within an olive grove, the work invites audiences to gather beneath the trees and enter into a shared space of listening, reflection and connection.
The performance gives voice to a collective “we” – at once human and more-than-human – blurring the boundaries between people, olive trees and place. Through poetic repetition, ritual gestures and the act of gathering, We, the Tree reflects on care and extraction, resilience and regeneration, memory and inheritance. It asks what olive trees have witnessed across generations, and what they might say if we stopped long enough to listen.
Created for Eufònic Terra (2026), the work was presented among centuries-old olive trees at Finca del Pla la Bassa in La Sénia, where the grove became both stage and collaborator. During the performance, audience members received one of twenty original drawings created from incidental inkblots made with olive stone charcoal, hand-drawn interventions and a single strand of gold thread stitched through the centre of each image. These small works extended the performance beyond the site, offering a tangible gesture of exchange and remembrance.
We, the Tree considers olive trees not as passive elements of the landscape but as living beings with agency, memory and enduring presence. It is an invitation to slow down, to listen more closely, and to recognise our place within the living landscape.
