Stuffed, 1997-2000. Chocolate, soap, latex, steel and shoe.

The artist’s exploration with materials including chocolate, soap, feathers, latex and steel sees further development within this three year period. Steel skeletal frameworks for sculptural armatures support ageing latex skin casts directly from the artist’s body, flayed open for closer inspection. Akin to the body, the works degrade and deteriorate reinforcing the transience and fragility of our existence. ‘Followed’ presents a curved form of solid white chocolate vertebrae culminating in cupped hands as if asking for absolution. ‘Monthly’ records the artist’s hair growth and shaving ritual inline with the menstrual cycle. ‘Pure’ a cast of the artist’s body in solid soap is washed in exhibition as live performance to reduce the size and curves of the female form.
