Penitente III, 2024. Live performance, Tortosa for ‘Studio Grotesque’.
The performance is the third iteration of a drawing from and of the body. Using handmade charcoal, I again assume a kneeling position in submission to the process. A drawing emerges directly onto the concrete floor, reflecting bodily symmetrical movements. Without a preconceived design or image in mind, I try to create something live and ‘of the moment’ in a site-specific way. The drawing was then cleaned in an attempt to delete the marks. I then sat on a wooden chair in the background of the drawing site, staring at the audience. 8 minutes passed.
